AdAway app is actively developed by Bruce Bujon (@PerfectSlayer) and Daniel Mönch (@Vankog) which was originally developed by Dominik Schürmann (@dschuermann). The app has been designed as open-source software to block ads on Android using host files. Technically, it fetches the advertising network addresses and block them on your device. Host files are located in /system/etc/hosts and that maps hostnames to IP addresses. You can block the unwanted hostnames by adding them to your list under the main menu of Adaway app. Then, all the unwanted hostnames are redirected to specific IP address and no longer advertising on your device from appointed advertising network
